Being a Technical Product Manager — 3rd Year (Dec 22' — Dec 23')
Welcome back to the third year of my journey as a Senior Technical Product Manager. This year was a whirlwind of growth, innovation, and accomplishment, building upon the successes and lessons learned in the first year.
Let’s delve into the highlights of this transformative year, as we continued to evolve our product and our impact in the world of ecommerce.
1. Going Global
January marked a significant milestone for KartmaX as we welcomed our first client with international audience in multiple countries. To adapt to a global audience, we modified our product to support multi-currency setups, taking KartmaX truly international.
2. Rapid Brand Launches
In February, we launched the first brand of the year — a sports athleisure wear brand with a strong focus on promoting sports. We delivered this project in record time, setting the pace for the year.
3. Migration Success
Simultaneously, we undertook the migration of a prominent men’s wear brand from a our legacy platform to our new SaaS platform. The success of this migration demonstrated the trust and confidence our platform had gained, encouraging other teams to bring existing businesses onto it.
4. Women’s Fast Fashion Brand
By March, we had completed the migration and embarked on another project, launching a women-focused fast fashion brand. With a standard D2C approach, we delivered the website in just a few weeks, our fastest delivery to date.
5. Continuous Product Improvement
Throughout the year, our product team remained focused on daily improvements, drawing on the lessons learned from the previous year’s challenges to enhance our platform continually.
6. KartmaX Search Revolution
I personally took on the task of revolutionizing KartmaX Search, making it 10 times faster while reducing costs by 60%. This was a significant highlight, showcasing our commitment to efficiency and innovation.
7. Cost Optimization
With more brands on board, revenue began flowing in. I took on the challenge of optimizing hosting costs, gaining insights into hidden expenses. By year-end, we were running the same infrastructure at 50% lower costs, with room for more projects.
8. “Khiladi” Chooses Us
Midway through the year, another major Bollywood star, known as “Khiladi,” chose our platform to start their online ecommerce journey. We delivered a uniquely designed website tailored to their preferences.
9. Product Enhancements
Our product made significant strides in various areas, including admin panel functionality, overall site performance, DIY editor, exports, and reports functionality. We also put the finishing touches on KartmaX’s international currency support module.
10. Luxury Pen Brand Challenge
An established luxury pen brand, in business for 20+ years, joined our platform. This brand demanded both B2B and B2C features, prompting us to quickly develop B2B functionalities like Draft orders, Billing and Shipping addresses, GSTN support, and Gift Wrap.
11. Knowledge Base and Documentation
I launched a dedicated Knowledge Base portal for our SaaS product, authoring technical blogs, tutorials, newsletters, and more. This initiative aimed to document our product comprehensively and help users better understand its capabilities.
12. Successful Festive Season
As the year approached its end, we entered the festive season fully prepared. Most brands on our platform enjoyed remarkable sales and order volumes without major hiccups. We achieved an impressive 99.959% uptime support during the peak sale season along with record sales and order volume.
13. International Outreach
During this period, we began pitching to international clients, conducting demos, and successfully closing deals with some of them.
14. “Bhai ka Birthday” Mega Event
Just like the previous year, we prepared for the mega event of the year, “Bhai ka Birthday.” The entire team rallied for this flagship event, and the results were astounding. We processed over 30,000 orders in the last month, with close to 15,000 during the mega sale event, achieving the highest platform-level sales of 1+ crore rupees in a single day. This success boosted our team’s confidence and spirit.
15. A Year of Learning and Achievements
The third year of my journey as a Technical Product Manager was a profound learning experience for me and the team. We not only focused on building great products and features but also on delivering projects on time, supporting bug fixes, enhancing ecommerce businesses in detail, and optimizing costs.
16. Expansion and Integration
By the end of the year, we launched more than 18 features and established 40+ integrations with industry leaders in domains like Payment Gateways, Logistics, OMS, and MarTech.
17. The Future Beckons
As the year concluded, we celebrated our stellar achievements and looked forward to even bigger projects, features, integrations, and brands in the year ahead.
The third year was a testament to our team’s dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to delivering excellence in the world of ecommerce.
Stay tuned for the next chapter in my journey as a Senior Technical Product Manager, as we continue to innovate and grow in 2024!
